Time with Magic

So I finally got to ride Magic today. This is how it went :).........

I got to the barn at like four, it was a little late but my dad and I had to wait for this guy to come over and fix our freaking dishwasher, anddddd he never showed up. So we finally left. When I got to the barn, I went to Magic's paddock and she was eating hay. Then she looked up at me and came over. She wasn't initially pacing (like she always does when she wants to come in) so I know that it was because she was truly happy to see me. AWE! So I took her in the barn, tacked her and got on.

My ride was pretty good, not great but what do I expect for not riding her in over a month? Plus she needs her feet done. Nancy rode her yesterday for me but she can't get back in shape from only one ride! Surprisingly she was still keeping her head off the rail with very little fighting. I didn't want to work her too much because, like I said, she REALLY needs her feet done. Plus she was really stiff. The only real problem I had with her was that she went back into some of her old bad habits. But once I start working her on a daily basis that'll go away too. For example not wanting to stand on the rail, and kept taking small steps from side to side but not being too bad. And she only did that twice, which NOTHING compared to how she used to fight. Overall, it was a pretty good ride and I expected it not to be bad, but not to be good either. She's just such a good girl.

So I had the arena to myself and decided to let her loose. I didn't think I worked her enough (even though I didn't want to work her a lot) so I decided to free lunge her a bit because she could still work more. I only did that for about 10 minutes. After that I let her just relax. She rolled around and followed me, like she always does. She walked away and I turned my back because I was playing with a cat for like 5 minutes. She was being so cute. She came up to me and pretty much put her head in my chest like she did at a show once after she was a good girl. I stood there for like 10 minutes hugging and petting her and I could tell that she just loved it. I love my princess!!

Overall updates!

Wow I haven't made any new posts in a long time!

Due to some personal reasons, I haven't been out to the barn to see Magic in a while, but last night my friend Nancy and I got to go out. I decided I didn't want to work Magic too hard so I decided to just lunge her for a little while. All we did was mostly trot because I didn't want to push her too hard. She needs her feet done and some chiropractic work so I want to get that done before we really start to work. She was good though and I'm going to the barn again tonight to lunge her.

Nancy has a 3 year old breeding stock paint gelding named Riley, who she broke and is training herself. And I got to ride him yesterday! He's really fun, and is coming a long really well, and fast! He is really smart! I love my nephew:)

A friend of mine has a trekahner mare named Luna who needed to be worked because she is for sale and people are coming out to see her this weekend. She is grey and about 17.2 hands!!!! (I think) I was initially going to ride her, but it was FREEEEZING outside and getting late. I ended up lunging her, which was fun because she was listening really well. She's such a nice girl.

Since Magics getting old it's time to start thinking of another horse, not a new one, ANOTHER one, I plan on keeping Magic. I think I'm going to buy a paint from the same breeder Nancy got Riley from, that will happen in about a year because I need a job and would like to save up some money.

That's all for now!!!!

Show August 22nd/ School september fourth

I honestly forgot about this untill now so I never said how magic and I did! We got three fourths and one first! The first of course was in arab/half arab/morgan in hand but we were the only ones in that class. There were other horses of that type there too but they didn't answer, I kinda wish they did though. Anyways...I was really proud of her. We have another on the 25th I think.

School started so I dont have as much time to ride anymore, but next month I am hopefully getting my license, maybe a car:), but...thats just a hope.

Tomorrow my friend is moving her new baby riley to the barn, so im going to see him and gonna ride miss magic. I know she'll be amazing like she always does:) L<3VE that girly!

Ride on Magic 6/17/2010

Its 3:10 in the morning on 8/18/2010 and I can't sleep, so im blogging.

Well, I rode magic for a good while and we got a good work out. We worked on a lot of cantering, getting her collected and my equitation. Magic was phenomenal but I feel like our canter is a little bit on the ugly side and we have to work on that. I need to drive more with my hips and less with my shoulders. I feel like my last couple rides I've made an improvement with my posture, not looking down, and not leaning forward. I need more muscle in my thigh so I think I'm even gonna order a thigh master, so I can work on them when I'm not riding. I really need to work on my leg position too. I push down on the ball of my toe and my heels go more up than they do down. My toes go out too and my legs need to be more under me. But over all these past few days, Magic and I have made a pretty good improvement.

But yes, we trotted alot too (duh) and she was extending alot more than she has been these past few days, she also didn't have that stupid attitude shes had. We worked on crazy 8's and cantering from the trot, which Magic is recently being taught to do since she did saddleseat and they don't do that. She picked up the wrong lead twice which is weird because I don't remember looking down. I just hope we can make a lot more progress in these next four days before the show on the 22nd. I'm sort of nervous but I know this is what we've been practicing more.

Bed time for me now...nightttttt

Ms. Magic

Magic is my nsh mare. She is bay black and is 23 years old. She is not on any supplements and has no arthritis or any other medical condition. She has a great personality and but can sometimes be mareish and a totaly brat. She has the exact same personality as me. Its sort of weird. Her biggest problem is that she is heavy headed and likes to stick her head on the rail. But what do you expect? She was trained that way...

She did saddleseat pretty much her entire life up until now because I am retraining her for huntseat. We are not quite there yet and I have things to work on myself but we are coming along. We have our first show on the 22nd:)
